Fellowship in PET/CT imaging

The fellowship in PET/CT imaging at Zurich University Hospital has seen over 120 fellows since 2007. The fellows typically come for a minimum of 4 weeks and have their own workstation in the fellows room, on which they can view and read the daily PET/CT cases performed at our hospital. This gives the fellows a real life environment which they will find, when reading PET/CTs in their own service. During this activity, they are supervised by our experienced PET/CT readers.

The fully structured fellowship program has the following daily schedule:

-          self study of daily PET/CT cases on personal workstation, now including some PET/MR cases

-          staff member review of clinical PET/CT request forms with fellows pointing out salient information of patient history

-          daily 45 minute lecture on topics relevant to PET/CT technical and clinical issues

-          discussion of daily cases with a staff physician having extensive experience in PET/CT reading

-          daily Nuclear Medicine and PET read-out with discussion of most interesting cases of the day

-          additional self study and discussion time with staff physician

The program takes a maximum of 4 fellows in parallel. The aim is that fellows become able independent PET/CT readers in an intensive program. As typically 15-25 clinical PET/CT studies are done per day in our service, fellows can review 300-400 cases in a 4 week period under supervision. Other material for self-study is also available.

Details for qualification to attend this fellowship program are outlined under “program entry requirements for participants” and “general description of certification program”
